D240. That’s not the name of a species of durian, but home for the next two months. My new home is back on campus, a unit in the staff quarters. Tucked away at the far end of campus, the end unit is surrounded by forest in the north and east, facing the driveway in the west, with a jackfruit tree in front of the stairway and yard.

The two-bedroom apartment is furnished with a sofa set, cable television and a dining set. Each bedroom has two beds, a wardrobe and a dressing table. The kitchen comes with a refrigerator, 6 plates, 4 cups, 3 bowls and 3.14 sets of cutlery. There is also a little day room with a study table. There are two toilets, one squatting and one sitting. The common shower has a geyser attached which provided hot water.

Housemates aplenty, busy ants and evasive lizards, spiders big and small, bugs and insects of all kinds. Neighbours are mostly families, including those of faculty, monkeys and doggies. The cold has kept the mozzies away, which is good.

Cobwebs to be swept and dust to be picked up, all weekend was spent cleaning the house. That used up half a bottle of detergent. Cutlery to be washed, cooking utensils to be purchased, stove to be installed. Fresh rations and dry foodstuffs to stock up, cooking oil and condiments to bought. The kitchen needs a little more time before it can be functional.

Looks like setting up the house is going to keep me busy for a while.
